Maggie: This is Good News Asheville, your daily dose of good, for Thursday, October 8, 2026.
Ben: Hi, I'm Ben. And I'm Maggie. It's great to be with you.
Maggie: Good News Asheville is made possible by Dylan Lennon, Realtor with Unique: A Real Estate Collective, helping neighbors buy and sell homes all across Western North Carolina.
Ben: We start in West Asheville, where eleven-year-old Camden Byers used his Spanish skills to help neighbors after Helene.
Maggie: Camden, a sixth grader, translated for about two weeks at West Asheville Baptist Church, helping up to seventeen cars a day get vital supplies.
Ben: Over in Waynesville, the forty-third annual Church Street Art and Craft Show is back on Main Street with over one hundred artisans.
Maggie: In the River Arts District, a local studio is offering drop-in creative sessions for makers of all ages, from one to one hundred.
Ben: And in Clyde, Misfit Mountain is hosting a benefit concert with The Riverside on October nineteenth to support their animal rescue.
Maggie: Now for our microdoses. Friday Gallery Walks return to downtown Brevard, and a Marshall weaver is rebuilding her studio after the storm.
Ben: The Maggie Valley Arts and Crafts Show returns for its thirty-fifth year, and a monarch butterfly festival drew big crowds to Gorges State Park.
Maggie: An Arden strings teacher has built a thriving music program, and Haywood County chefs fed one hundred travel writers at a conference.
