Maggie: This is Good News Asheville, your daily dose of good, for Sunday, October 4, 2026.

Ben: Hey there, I'm Ben, and I'm Maggie. We are so glad you're here with us today.

Maggie: Good News Asheville is made possible by Dylan Lennon, Realtor with Unique: A Real Estate Collective, helping neighbors buy and sell homes all across Western North Carolina.

Ben: We start today in Fletcher, where hundreds of people gathered at Bill Moore Community Park for the Walk to End Alzheimer's.

Maggie: It was a beautiful way to raise funds and awareness, bringing together families from all across Western North Carolina who have been affected by the disease.

Ben: And out in the woods, the U.S. Forest Service is working hard to restore our damaged forest land.

Maggie: They are spreading twenty thousand pounds of seed across nine hundred acres of landslides caused by Helene.

Ben: That is a massive effort. Meanwhile, a local Tombstone Tales feature is highlighting Aunt Mae, who brought books and learning to the Broad River community.

Maggie: I love that. Over in Asheville, the South Slope Brewery District was full of life as crowds gathered to celebrate Oktoberfest with beer, brats, and festivities.

Ben: Now for our microdoses of good news from around the mountains.

Maggie: Western North Carolina farms won preservation grants from a fifty-one million dollar state investment, and Haywood County is funding a vital water resilience project.

Ben: Small towns across the region are continuing to rebuild two years after Helene, and WLOS is celebrating Tammy Watford's thirty-three years of telling our stories.

Maggie: Plus, volleyball spiked into HomeTrust Park for the Asheville Grass Open, and you can laugh along at Bebop's Monday Comedy Night in West Asheville.

Ben: So much to smile about. You can get your daily dose of good delivered right to your inbox by subscribing to our free newsletter at good news asheville dot com.

Maggie: Have a wonderful day, and we'll talk to you tomorrow.
