Maggie: This is Good News Asheville, your daily dose of good, for Monday, October 5, 2026.
Ben: Hi there, I'm Ben.
Maggie: And I'm Maggie. We are so glad you're joining us for a little dose of optimism from the mountains.
Ben: Good News Asheville is made possible by Dylan Lennon, Realtor with Unique: A Real Estate Collective, helping neighbors buy and sell homes all across Western North Carolina.
Maggie: We're starting today with some well-deserved national recognition. The incredible crews and agencies who worked tirelessly to restore safe drinking water to Western North Carolina residents after Helene have won a national award.
Ben: It's a wonderful tribute to their hard work and our region's resilience. Those water recovery heroes truly kept us going.
Maggie: They really did. Now, if you want to step back in time, the Cradle of Forestry in America is hosting a very unique camping event.
Ben: It's an old-style camping experience that shows visitors exactly how people used to camp over a century ago, back in the nineteen hundreds.
Maggie: That sounds like a lot of fun. And speaking of fall favorites, Highland Brewing has officially brought back its beloved Thunderstruck Coffee Porter.
Ben: Yes, this local collaboration is back for a limited fall run. It's the perfect cozy brew for the season.
Maggie: Let's get into today's microdoses. First up, we're seeing a surprising silver lining with a benefit to the Swannanoa River following Helene.
Ben: Plus, the Asheville Anime-Fest is returning, featuring voice actors, cosplay, and plenty of local vendors.
Maggie: And Sushi Kingdom has officially opened its doors in Asheville's Westgate area.
Ben: That's it for today. You can get your daily dose of good in your inbox with our free newsletter at good news asheville dot com.
Maggie: Have a wonderful Monday, neighbors. We'll talk to you tomorrow.
